Community dance is half about dance and half about community. In this lovely shadow picture taken by Martha McReynolds Jr. we are faceless and colorless, but over time we will fill out our profiles with color, interest, and friendship.
May 2013, Sally and Alan Jenkins
I'm Sally Jenkins, the organizer of Moveable Feet. My husband Alanis my indispensable other half. Alan retired from his career as a wildlife biologist specializing in birds of prey, and together we chose to retire from Oklahoma to Oregon. I have a dear sister in Cottage Grove, and we knew that the activities we enjoy could all be found here, minus the chiggers, tornadoes, excessive summer heat, and winter ice storms. Both of us have done International Folk Dance and Contra Dance since the late 1990's. In 2006 I started a family dance in the town we lived in, and polished some skills in teaching and calling which I now share with you in Creswell. Besides dancing, I make bobbin lace and am a member of the Oregon Trail Lace Makers. Alan and I both enjoy kakaying on quiet lakes and ponds. We are learning the official Oregon state pastime of gardening, and are enjoying the fruits of our garden.
March 2014, Gini Davis A community member who has come to nearly all our dances is Gini Davis, the Creswell Chronicle's star reporter and photographer. Gini moved to Creswell in the 7th grade, was smart enough to skip a grade somewhere along the line, and was only 16 while a senior in high school. The journalism teacher was ill one day and Gini was asked to fill in as reporter for a particular school event; her work was so good that she became a regular reporter for the high school paper. Gini's photography skills are mostly self-taught, and we all know what great photos she takes, especially action shots. Gini has taught writing at the college level, and currently teaches Technical Writing in online classes for Umpqua College. Gini has 3 children and two grandchildren. She loves the opportunity to work in the town where she lives.
